The Blob (a.k.a. The Molten Meteor) is a 1958 independently made American widescreen science fiction-horror film in color by De Luxe, produced by Jack H. Harris, directed by Irvin Yeaworth, that stars Steve McQueen and Aneta Corsaut. The film co-stars Earl Rowe and Olin Howland. 28-year-old Steve McQueen made his feature film debut in the lead role playing a teenager. The film was released by Paramount Pictures on a double bill with I Married a Monster from Outer Space.
The storyline concerns a growing, corrosive alien amoeba that crashes to Earth from outer space inside a meteorite. It engulfs and then dissolves citizens in the small community of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, growing larger, redder, and more aggressive each time it does so, eventually becoming larger than a building.
